Unity through Diversity

Not many people realize all that the evangelical churches of Liberal actually do together and have in common.  While churches have been characterized as not getting along with each by the mainstream media and have been the object of ridicule and scorn in many places, it is sometimes helpful to share with the community what the evangelical churches of Liberal are doing and what we are doing together.  The latest project of the Liberal Ministerial Alliance (LMA) was bringing the contemporary Christian group, FFH, to Liberal for the International Pancake Day Christian Artist Showcase.  FFH has had number one hits in contemporary adult Christian music for over a decade.  With songs like, Big Fish, You Drive, I’ll Ride, Found a Place, I Wanna Be Like Daniel, One of These Days, On My Cross, Ready to Fly, Undone, Still the Cross, and You Found Me, FFH appealed to a wide audience from young to old and back again!  The concert was held at the LHS Jim Maskus Auditorium at 7:00 PM on February 18.

In addition to this concert, LMA partners to help bring this each year’s Super Bowl Outreach to Faith Tabernacle.  Youth and adults from the area gather to watch the game and have a special presentation at half-time with this year’s being by former coach Gary Cornelson.  And, oh yeah, there is always lots and lots of pizza!  This is a great time of fellowship, food and faith among like-minded churches working together to share Christ in innovative and meaningful ways.

In addition, let’s not forget about the International Pancake Race and associated events.  Every year, LMA coordinates the Shriving Day service by cooperating to present a shared service to help prepare people for the upcoming Lenten Season.  The service follows the race.

Looking down the road a bit, LMA will also be handing out Bibles and sharing in this year’s Baccalaureate service for the Liberal High School’s graduating class.  We will also have our annual Easter Afterglow service, which will allow each of the churches an opportunity to share some of their Easter music with people from other churches in LMA.  We will share in the National Day of Prayer the first Thursday in May, at the courthouse.  We will share in See You at the Pole, Cry Out America on September 11th,  and will share a Thanksgiving service together.

In addition to these events, we meet together for a time of fellowship, prayer and planning the first Wednesday of the month and pray together the second Tuesday of the month! Through all of this, we strive to show Unity Through Diversity by working together on those things which are foundational to the gospel and with which we agree.  We hope that we show, in some small way, what Jesus meant when He said, “By this will all men know you are My disciples, in that ye have love one for another” (John 13:35)
